IEN’s Presentation Sessions provide a space for researchers to present current work on Iranian and related musical cultures, followed by discussion and questions. Topics have ranged from regional musical traditions and ethnographic documentation to modernity, popular music, and music history.
Past events have included George Mürer’s presentation, “Kurdistan: Constructing Layered Musical Landscapes through Fieldwork and Documentation,” which reflected on his research across Kurdish musical and cultural contexts; a session by Mahmoud Mashhudi on the music of Arab communities in Khuzestan; Arman Goharinasab’s presentation on Turkmen narratives and the construction of musical meaning.
